It was a pretty good game. I really liked it, it's not top 10 worthy but out of all the souls-like games it really stands out. It's up there with Remnant.
I liked the character customization and most of the exploration. My favorite thing has to be the build variety - so many different powers and options and combinations, and a very unintrustive system for outfits. The combat system is pretty straightforward and easy to understand, so you're free to develop a lot of freedom in how you play, plus the vestige powers make for a good reward for actually exploring areas to their fullest.
The bosses were the highlight for me, the boss fights were all fun and exciting, and rewarded creative solutions.
The game is really easy. I ran with Yakumo and Io as my main partners throughout and Yakumo especially was a beast and killed most enemies before I could. He outdamaged me well into the late game, and if I ever died he res'd me immediately. With the right spells and weapons you are basically immortal. Over half the bosses I beat on the first try, including one who I beat with no heals at all. Only one boss gave me any trouble - the butterfly lady in the city ruins because by then I hadn't upgraded my status effect spells to be able to use them with any build so I had to use a build I wasn't familiar with. By the late game I was so OP I obliterated the Oreinstein and Smough boss and Mido back to back without even having to replenish heals. So that was a bit of a let down.
The backstabbing animation takes SO long and is so dramatic. I avoided backstabs just to avoid that animation.
The vestiges were cool but there are so many and inevitably you get a bunch in a row and it's exhausting to go through 10 of those interactive cutscenes in a row. I really do wanna know the lore and it's a cool storytelling device but there's just too much of it.
I really like the NPC quests but I wish the game let me know about them. There's no reason to backtrack to old areas so it wasn't until I was literally about to fight the last boss and I was missing Davis' vestiges that you could go back to old areas and find new NPCs.
This last one maybe is just a reflection of me, but I was frustrated to learn it was possible to save Eva. For every other successor I could use their Io clone to determine whether I had gotten all the vestiges but Eva's doesn't actually list Part A. I know it's my fault but it angered me immensely when I found it later and realized that her attendant doesn't tell you about it. And this is the only successor where that happens too!
All in all a great game, I'd give it a solid 7 and I'm excited to get into the multi-player side. Idk what to expect but I'm here for it.
