Platinum #143 - Watch Dogs Legion

The core idea of plucking people with different skills off the street and recruiting them to your team is interesting, but in execution it feels slightly lacking. Most operatives on the street only have bits and pieces of movesets, and hunting down operatives that have a lot of options yourself is nullified when the game gives you strong operatives for completing missions or just pins them on your map. This also comes at the price of having no central protagonist with proper motives and character acting.

The story is very mid. None of the villains have enough screentime to make them feel like a true presence (standard of most Ubisoft villains). The story felt like a slog to get through with its repetitive objectives, and it felt overly long.

The gunplay is alright, but I don’t like how tanky these enemies are. I miss when a headshot was, well, a headshot. Driving mechanics were ok but it’s criminal that there were no races or time trials anywhere in this game. Melee combat is trash, it’s so boring and simple and feels clunky.

Two collectibles trophies broke on me, forcing me to start a second playthrough and collect all of them in on sitting for the trophies to pop. Such a drag. The DLC was the best part of the game. You play as two realized characters with personalities, they have fully realized movesets, and the story is actually ok.

Overall, I spent two months on this game since a bunch of life stuff happened recently, and I feel like I’ve been playing this for longer than it was worth. I’m glad I’m done and I have the Watch Dogs badge now.
