Pretty fun game to play and platinum. First off, this took me a little less time than the guide time, and I also didn't think it was a 5/10 in difficulty, at least after you get through the first boss fight. That said, your mileage will vary depending on how many soulslikes you already have under your belt. For average gamers, a 5/10 is probably about right, though it's worth noting that the game has accessibility features that allows you to reduce the difficulty to 2. One such feature gives you a gun, which one-shots every enemy in the game (including bosses). This does not disable trophies or anything.
I of course went through the game without using it (apart from the one mandatory time for the trophy This Kills The Crab) and as I said, the difficulty wasn't too bad apart from the first boss. That's because it's as tough as all the others in the game, but you fight it without having unlocked pretty much any ability or upgrade. That makes it kinda tough, and it took me a good 9 attempts to defeat it. Afterwards, most bosses are quite easy, though some will of course take a couple attempts to figure out the patterns. Still, you can pretty much tank your way through most parts of any boss fight.
What's cool about this game is that, since you're a crab, you get to equip shells that act as your shield. You can hide inside it to block most incoming damage, and you can even use the shells special abilities, which might be a big attack, healing or something unique. There are 69 shells in the game, all of which need to be found for the trophy Shell Seeker, and they are all really clever items like a tennis ball, a light bulb or a banana peel. It was always a pleasure to stumble upon a new one, and the majority are easy to find. Only a handful I had to use a guide for, since they only spawn in one specific spot afaik.
The story is solid, though I personally didn't find the ending to be all that satisfying. That said, the meta messaging is quite clear and well done. If you think about that, perhaps the ending is the only one that the game could've gone with. In this game, trash is quite valuable, and the antagonist, Roland, makes people work endlessly to collect it for him. This trash, however, has the side effect called "gunk", which makes all living creatures under the sea lose their sanity and turn into mindless killing machines. Roland, the stereotypical capitalist that he is, does not care about how it affects others however, as long as he gets rich off of it. Then you got characters like Firth, who only see the good in Roland and his "genuine efforts to boost the economy and give employment opportunities". So as I said, it's clear commentary on modern society that goes beyond the funny/sad collection of shells stemming from humanity's littering.
Outside of the reality of this, the game genuinely is pretty funny. Some of the dialogues had me at least breathing some air out of my nose, which doesn't happen with a lot of games. For the most part, the game does have a cheery, upbeat feel to it in its vibe and writing, despite the fact that a lot of the music is atmospheric and more sad than happy sounding. Kinda weird, but that's truly how it is. Overall, I didn't quite vibe with the OST myself and found only a handful of the tracks to be enjoyable. This too doesn't happen a lot for me with games.
All in all though, Another Crab's Treasure impressed me as much as I had hoped from a gameplay perspective, and the journey to platinum and 100% it was very easily achievable with minimal need for a guide. Definitely recommend it to all soulslike fans and even those on the fence because of that, since the accessibility options let you bypass all non-platforming challenges in the game.
OK so let me honest here with you. I am not a souls like person. yet I got this platinum. How? Cause you can have a gun that can pretty much one shot the bosses. Now I did try to fight them honestly before I pulled out my gun. But as I said I am no souls like player. So, my rating is based off my personal experience. Which was still a struggle and a grind. A really fun story though and the art style was enjoyable and misleading.
